21st Century Terrorism21st Century Terrorism begins with an overview of the history of modern terrorism, starting with a discussion of Michael Collins and the origins of the Irish Republican Army and its innovative approach to terrorism/"Freedom Fighters" and a look at how that model has been used and improved upon by virtually all modern terrorist groups.
An introduction to Islam, from a "Westerner's" perspective, follows. The objective her eis to provide basic information so the attendee can appreciate hte culture of Islam and learn to discern the difference between traditional Islam and extremist Islam. The class ends by delving into aspects of prevention, detection and deterrence, including a short review of threat and vulnerability assessments and how they are used as tolls in developing policies and procedures for local law enforcement.
