Sex offenders have a unique set of issues and motives that impact whether or not they will offend. This course will focus on the psychology of sex offenders and how it can impact a criminal investigation.
We will dispel the common myths of sex offenders in order to see more realistic ways in which they offend. Investigators will find the information useful for ruling out or ruling in potential suspects that may have not been considered before. The class will also familiarize the law enforcement officer with risk factors that may change over time with a particular sex offender, therefore making them more or less likely to offend.
Sex crime detectives and supervision officers with registered sex offenders on their caseload will be able to identify features in the registrants’ lives that may put them at higher risk for re-offense. The effectiveness of residency restrictions and their effects on public safety will also be discussed. Overall, the course will include information on adult male sex offenders, as well as female offenders, juvenile offenders, and offenders who are developmentally delayed.

register →A rare insight to Islam is given from a perspective only acquired by an American westerners’ experience in living amongst the people in numerous Middle-Eastern countries. The objective is to foster a basic but accurate understanding so the attendee can appreciate the culture of Islam and learn to discern differences between traditional and extremist Islam. Because the terrorist threat itself is more dynamic and fluid compared to any other threats the United States has ever dealt with, one must understand how a terrorist or terrorist group thinks, their motivations, goals and intentions.
The class also concentrates on Pre-Incident Indicators patrol personnel, other law enforcement and security professionals might find while conducting their routine duties. An Attack Matrix is provided which delineates the process used by terror groups to achieve their ultimate goals. A thorough review of resources available to support the security personnel is provided, as well as a review of how to record and report the indicator information when noted.

This course will examine the criteria of PTSD, what on-the-job incidents might result in PTSD, the stigma of being diagnosed with a disorder, and what to expect if referred to a fitness for duty evaluation. The objective of this course is to educate the attendee to the fact that the symptoms discussed are normal reactions to an abnormal situation. Research shows that officers are less likely to suffer adverse effects such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) if they are made aware of the symptoms before they experience them. This course is designed to familiarize the law enforcement officer or other first responder with the emotional aftermath of a critical incident, such as a shooting or other life-threatening situation.
First responders who complete this course will be able to identify acute and severe symptoms of PTSD as well as factors in their lives that may ampliufy or decrease their risk of suffering from PTSD. They will also be made aware of the everyday situations (such as death investigations or fatal traffic accidents) that may, over time, lead to an anxiety disorder.
